Organic Chaga Tincture

From:

  • Magic for:
  • ADAPTING
  • REGENERATION
  • DEFENCE

Triple extracted 1:4 Chaga tincture foraged, farmed and formulated by us, and is potentially ideal for building up a great immune system.

The name Chaga originates from the Russian word for mushroom (czaga), where it has been traditionally revered as a folk medicine for centuries to treat a variety of ailments and disorders, boost physical stamina and "attain long life". In the West, Chaga has gained exponential growth in popularity and is often hailed as the most nutrient-dense superfood in the world.

As popularity rises, we have to be mindful about how we harvest this precious fungi, so every bottle of Bristol Fungarium Chaga mushroom supplement is obtained for us sustainably from Scotland before the sap starts rising in the birch trees from which it grows - and for every sale made, we donate at least £1 back to reforesting initiatives in the Scottish Highlands, as well as local re-wilding projects.

Our Chaga is:

  • UK Native & Sustainably Grown In The UK
  • 100% UK Organic Certified Functional Mushroom Extract
  • Triple Extracted, 1:4 Ratio Mushroom Supplement (Super Strength)

Description

UK-wild harvested Chaga tincture, sustainably foraged in Scotland and extracted at our lab on the farm in Somerset.

We are the only organic certified UK-native functional mushroom producer currently in the UK.

What makes Bristol Fungarium's Chaga tincture unique?

100% Organic Certified

The only UK-grown organic certified Chaga Mushroom Tincture. All our mushrooms are grown on an organic mushroom farm in the green county of Somerset UK, and are certified by the Soil Association. Our organic functional mushroom tinctures are triple extracted with distilled water and organic UK ethanol, on the very same farm the mushrooms are grown on.

Native & Wild UK Chaga

Our Organic Chaga is wild-foraged in the Scottish Highlands, once per year. As much as possible we utilise native strains, not only to help us get closer once again to the medicine of this land – where so much of the knowledge has been lost – but most importantly to have as little effect as possible on local biodiversity and ultimately tread as lightly as possible on the earth. By prioritising native strains we are avoiding the spread of billions of spores that come from commercial mushroom strains that have been selected specifically for their ability to grow fast and fruit heavily, and will therefore easily out compete a lot of the native strains we have growing around the farm.

Grown in Somerset, UK

Our Reishi is grown on our organic mushroom farm, where we crop almost half a ton per month. We also prepare the tinctures and pack the orders in-house - meaning origin can be traced back to one location in the clean green pastures of Somerset with absolutely no tampering by third parties.

Triple Extracted, 1: 4 Ratio (Super Strength)

We carry out two hot water extractions and a final organic ethanol extraction to give you access to all the bioactive compounds that are responsible for Chaga's beneficial properties. Many capsules and supplements are shipped across the world in powder form as it is a more commercially viable way of transporting extracted products, however, our tinctures are prepared on-site at a 1:4 ratio (1g of mushrooms to every 4ml of water). Tinctures generally have a longer shelf life than capsules, provide a faster absorption rate, enable flexible dosage, and are easy to prepare by simply taking one squeeze of mushroom tincture twice per day either directly under the tongue or into a short glass of water.

Fully Transparent & Short Supply Chain

Each bottle of our organic Chaga tincture contains 128g of Chaga fruiting body*. Our Chaga grows in Scotland where we harvest 1x per year before bringing it back to the farm in Somerset, where we also prepare the tinctures and pack the orders – meaning origin can be traced back to one location with absolutely no tampering by third parties. Because our supply chain is so much shorter, and we prepare our tincture in comparatively small batches, you can be sure that the extracts you buy from us haven’t lost bioactive compounds due to sitting around for a long time or being shipped halfway across the world.

Ingredients

This Chaga tincture is made simple and strong, with just three ingredients: our organic mushrooms, purified water and organic alcohol.

Etymology

The name Chaga originates from the Russian word for mushroom (czaga). The genus name ‘Inonotus’ translates as black fibre, and ‘obliquus’ refers to the pores being at an angle to the horizon.

Folklore

Chaga is traditionally revered as a folk medicine in eastern Russia where it is boiled into a tea to treat cancers, infections, and GIT disorders. Chaga is thought to prevent the onset of degenerative diseases, used to boost physical stamina, and attain long life. Among the Ojibwe people of Northern Canada, Chaga is seen as a potent anti-tumour fungus.

Origin

Native to colder climates, Chaga is found on the bark of birch trees in places such as Northern Europe, Siberia, Russia, Korea, Northern Canada and Alaska.

All about our Organic Chaga Tincture

Fungi Profile

Latin genus name: Inonotus obliquus.

Chaga is hailed as the most nutrient-dense super food in the world! This unique fungus takes upwards of 15 years to grow from mature birch trees and has been used as traditional medicine for centuries to improve overall health, vigour, and immune function.

Scientific Properties

Chaga contains high levels of melanin, giving the fungal conk and tincture their dark hue. The melanin is also responsible for Chaga's uniquely powerful antioxidant properties, containing abundant free radical scavengers.

Chaga is also particularly rich in the antioxidant Superoxide Dismutase (SOD). This is shown to reduce free radical damage, ultimately benefiting the skin by preventing the formation of wrinkles and age spots.

As well as this, Chaga is also one of the most alkaline food sources on earth due to its high mineral content, including calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, rubidium, sulfur, and remarkably high zinc levels.

Health Benefits

By promoting the formation of beneficial cytokines (specialised proteins that regulate the immune system), chaga stimulates white blood cells, which are essential for fighting off harmful bacteria or viruses. As a result, Chaga can help fight infections — from minor colds to serious illnesses.

Chaga can also help Inflammatory Bowel Disease, which is partly caused by oxidative stress from free radicals and reduced antioxidant levels. In one in vitro study, Chaga extract reduced oxidative stress in the lymphocytes of both IBD patients and 'healthy normals'.

FAQS

Are tinctures safe to use when pregnant?

Whilst there is some information around the traditional use of Chaga through pregnancy,
there is essentially no modern research into the use of most supplements, including mushrooms, through pregnancy and nursing.
It is, understandably, difficult to design studies around medicating pregnant people. It's generally understood and something that we very much subscribe to, that taking anything through the first trimester should be avoided.

If people want to take supplements at any stage during pregnancy we hope and advise that
they always seek the advice of medical professionals.

How should I consume it?

You can consume your tincture in many ways - be it undiluted or in a drink or food. We
recommend taking your tincture in water or fruit juice, ideally alongside a meal. This method is thought to be the best for absorption. Whatever fits your lifestyle and makes it easy to enjoy, some may even wish to add them into soups, salad dressings or smoothies
for additional medicinal benefits at mealtime.

How much tincture should I take?

We suggest a daily dosage of 1-2ml. This can be either taken all at once (suggested in the morning around 15 mins before food) or distributed throughout the morning and afternoon as preferred.

We are the only organic certified & UK-native functional mushroom producer.
