Chaga
Chaga aka “the king of mushrooms”, has a long history of medicinal use and boasts amazing health benefits, typically found growing on birch trees in cold climates with the appearance of burnt charcoal due to the massive amounts of melanin it holds.
In Siberia, Chaga mushroom is sometimes called a “Gift from God” because of its reported health benefits, including what appears to be a testosterone-boosting effect, which is a vital hormone for overall health.
Chaga also contains various B vitamins, minerals (e.g: calcium, copper, iron, manganese, potassium, zinc), multiple phytonutrients including flavonoids and phenols, and a huge amount of antioxidant compounds. Several test tube experiments have suggested that triterpenes may be the compounds that give chaga its anticancer, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, pain relief, and immune stimulating properties.
Lion's mane
Lions mane or "Nature's Nutrient for the Neurons" has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, physiologically thought to be a treatment for ulcers in the gut while promoting good digestion - and energetically supporting general vigor - or 'Chi'.
The symptoms we generally associate with aging—like memory loss—are thought to be caused by factors in our nervous system such as shrinking neurons and damaged brain cells. Studies show that lion’s mane extract may actually support brain health by stimulating the creation of two important compounds: nerve growth factor (NGF) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).
NGF and BDNF are proteins that stimulate the production of new cells and strengthen existing ones. NGF also plays an important role in forming myelin, the sheath around nerve cells that helps brain cells do their job. BDNF increases brain plasticity, which helps your brain cells stay resilient in the face of stress or aging.
Cordyceps
Worth its weight in gold, literally. Cordyceps has earned its place in the functional mushroom hall of fame thanks to unique compounds that give the ascomycete fungus its energising, restorative and uplifting benefits. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Cordyceps is seen to possess both Ying & Yan – nourishing and invigorating properties.
