Shiitake is one of the world’s most recognisable and widely cultivated mushrooms, known for its deep umami flavour and glossy, dark-brown caps. Native to the forests of East Asia, Shiitake grows naturally on decaying hardwood and has been part of culinary and medicinal traditions for thousands of years.

In traditional Chinese and Japanese herbalism, Shiitake has long been used to support general vitality, overall wellbeing, and longevity. Records of its use date back more than 2,000 years, where it was considered both a nourishing food and a restorative tonic. Over time, Shiitake cultivation became a respected craft, and the mushroom was prized enough to be given as gifts to emperors.

As much as possible we utilise native strains, not only to help us get closer once again to the land - where so much of the knowledge has been lost - but most importantly to have as little effect as possible on local biodiversity and tread as lightly as possible on the earth. 

 

Triple Extracted, 1: 4 Ratio (Super Strength)

Each bottle of our organic Shiitake tincture contains 128g of Shiitake fresh fruiting body*. Once harvested and dehydrated, the mushrooms are extracted with both alcohol and hot water to extract a full spectrum of bioactive compounds. We carry out three extraction processes. Our tinctures are then prepared on-site at a 1:4 ratio (1g of mushrooms to every 4ml of water).

Farmed & Formulated in Somerset, UK

Once cloned in our lab and successfully inoculated, the substrate transforms into healthy myceliated blocks when they are moved from incubation to the fruiting chamber. Then we harvest, dehydrate, grind, and then extract using plant-derived alcohol. Once ready, the carefully crafted tinctures are packed and posted. All mushrooms in our Farmed by Us range - including Lion’s Mane, Reishi, Shiitake, Oyster and Maitake - are lovingly farmed and formulated right here on our organic mushroom farm in the green county of Somerset.

Once upon a time in China & Japan, logs inoculated with Shiitake during a child's birth would mature with them into adulthood, when they would inherit the ‘fortune in their backyard'. This made shiitake a highly prized possession, which families would regularly rob from one another - leading to what was known as a ‘shiitake war’.

Etymology

From Japanese, 'shii' denoting a kind of oak, and 'take' meaning ‘mushroom’.

FAQS

How much tincture should I take?

We suggest a daily dosage of 1-2ml. This can be either taken all at once (suggested in the morning around 15 mins before food) or distributed throughout the morning and afternoon as preferred.

How should I consume it?

You can consume your tincture in many ways - be it undiluted or in a drink or food. We
recommend taking your tincture in water or fruit juice, ideally alongside a meal. This method is thought to be the best for absorption. Whatever fits your lifestyle and makes it easy to enjoy, some may even wish to add them into soups, salad dressings or smoothies
for additional medicinal benefits at mealtime.

How many doses are in each bottle?

There are 50x 1ml servings per 50ml bottle. Taking the recommended dose of 1-2ml daily means a bottle will last between 25-50 days.
