  • Magic for:
  • LONGEVITY
  • IMMUNITY

Triple extracted 1:4 Oyster tincture foraged, farmed and formulated by us, and is potentially ideal for support with ageing.

Oysters are an unsung hero in medicinal fungi. They have been prized for centuries for their nutritional value and delicious taste, with large amounts of ergothioneine, ergosterol, and l-methionine. This mushroom offers great antioxidant benefits and research also suggests they could be anti-inflammatory and even help support our brains as we age! In TCM, oyster mushrooms are recommended for “relaxation of muscles, joints and tendons, to strengthen circulation, and to increase kidney function”. They have a dense polysaccharide composition and studies have explored its immunomodulatory and prebiotic capacities.

Description

UK-grown organic Oyster tincture, cloned in our lab and extracted in the tincture kitchen on our mushroom farm in Somerset.

We are the only organic certified UK-native functional mushroom producer currently in the UK.

What makes Bristol Fungarium's Oyster tincture unique?

100% Organic Certified

The only UK-grown organic certified Oyster Mushroom Tincture. All our mushrooms are grown on an organic mushroom farm in the green county of Somerset UK, and are certified by the Soil Association. Our organic functional mushroom tinctures are triple extracted with distilled water and organic UK ethanol.

Grown in Somerset, UK

Our Oysters are grown on our organic mushroom farm, where we crop almost half a ton per month. We also prepare the tinctures and pack the orders in-house - meaning origin can be traced back to one location in the clean green pastures of Somerset with absolutely no tampering by third parties.

Triple Extracted, 1: 4 Ratio (Super Strength)

We carry out two hot water extractions and a final organic ethanol extraction to gain access to all the bioactive compounds responsible for Oyster's beneficial properties. Many capsules and supplements are shipped across the world in powder form as it is a more commercially viable way of transporting extracted products. However, our tinctures are prepared on-site at a 1:4 ratio (1g of mushrooms to every 4ml of water). Tinctures have a longer shelf life than capsules, provide a faster absorption rate, enable flexible dosage, and are easy to prepare by simply taking one squeeze of mushroom tincture twice per day either directly under the tongue or into a short glass of water.

Fully Transparent & Short Supply Chain

Each bottle of our organic Oyster tincture contains 128g of Oyster fruiting body*. Because our supply chain is so much shorter, and we prepare our tincture in comparatively small batches, you can be sure that the extracts you buy from us haven't lost bio-active compounds due to sitting around for a long time or being shipped halfway across the world.

Ingredients

This Oyster tincture is made simple and strong, with just three ingredients: our organic mushrooms, purified water and organic alcohol.

Etymology

Pleurotus is Latin for 'side ear' and refers to the lateral attachment of the stem; ostreatus is a reference to oysters, as the fruitbodies often resemble oyster shells.

Folklore

Oysters are one of the most widely cultivated mushrooms as they are easy to grow and aren’t too picky about what they eat. We grow ours on oak and beech wood, but oysters are carnivorous, feasting on roundworms and killing them using a nerve gas. Due to their ability to digest a diversity of substrates, they are used in the field of myco-remediation to break down toxic chemicals and nuclear waste, cleaning up as they breakdown.

Origin

Oyster mushrooms are found naturally on hardwood trees worldwide, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, mainland Europe, Asia, and parts of North America.

All about our Organic Oyster Tincture

Fungi Profile

Latin genus name: Pleurotus ostreatus.

Oysters are an unsung hero in medicinal fungi. They have been prized for centuries for their nutritional value, delicious taste and their great antioxidant benefits. Research also suggests they could be anti-inflammatory and even help support our brains as we age!

Scientific Properties

Oyster mushrooms contain a large amount of the essential vitamin Ergothioneine, which is an amino acid with powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Ergothioneine is called the “longevity vitamin” and is often used to mitigate diseases associated with ageing, including cardiovascular disease, joint pain, cancer, liver disease, cataracts, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Oyster mushrooms are also rich in flavonoids and phenolics, which are antioxidants that reduce or prevent cell damage in your body by fighting free radicals (substances linked to diseases like cancer).

And that’s not all! As well as this, Oysters are rich in B vitamins: riboflavin, niacin, and pantothenic acid - the combination that helps to protect heart health. Riboflavin is good for red blood cells, niacin is good for the digestive system and for maintaining healthy skin, and pantothenic acid is good for the NS and helps the body produce essential hormones.

Health Benefits

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, oyster mushrooms are recommended for “relaxation of muscles, joints and tendons, to strengthen circulation, and to increase kidney function.”

FAQS

Are tinctures safe to use when pregnant?

Whilst there is some information around the traditional use of Cordyceps through pregnancy, there is essentially no modern research into the use of most supplements, including mushrooms, through pregnancy and nursing.

It is, understandably, difficult to design studies around medicating pregnant people. It's generally understood and something that we very much subscribe to, that taking anything through the first trimester should be avoided.

If people want to take supplements at any stage during pregnancy we hope and advise that
they always seek the advice of medical professionals.

How much tincture should I take?

We suggest a daily dosage of 1-2ml. This can be either taken all at once (suggested in the morning around 15 mins before food) or distributed throughout the morning and afternoon as preferred.
